Campus + Community

Launched in 2022–23, Campus + Community (C+C) at UC Santa Cruz supports ethical, mutually beneficial scholarship that connects the university with local and global communities.

C+C advances community-engaged research and teaching grounded in social and environmental responsibility, diversity, and justice. The center values the knowledge and lived experiences of marginalized communities and works to build authentic, equitable partnerships that co-create and share knowledge for collective impact.

With foundational support from the Institute for Social Transformation, C+C strengthens collaboration across departments, expands experiential learning opportunities, and builds capacity for community partners. It also helps shape UCSC policies—such as tenure guidelines and ethical review processes—to better support collaborative research.

Through critical engaged research, faculty, students, staff, and community members work together on projects that center community voices and foster real-world change. By connecting campus and community, C+C demonstrates how partnership drives innovation, equity, and transformation for all.
