Faculty scholarship and creative work frame and contextualize life’s biggest questions, as our faculty members explore theories of mind, identity, and paths of social justice to place context around histories, culture, and community.
Students learn to read closely, to listen, and to attend to many perspectives. They come together to debate (sometimes noisily) controversies of justice, democracy, and freedom. They make visual art, music, theater, or digital media that play on unexpected perspectives. They practice thinking critically, writing persuasively, and debating convincingly. And they explore beauty and life in all of its fascinating and complex realities.
At UC Santa Cruz we nurture these habits of mind—the ability to observe, think, write, create, strategize, and present ideas.

Two UC Santa Cruz alumnae make their Off-Broadway debut
Rosie Glen-Lambert (Porter ’14, theater arts) and Hailey McAfee (Rachel Carson ’13, theater arts) make their Off-Broadway debut at Soho Playhouse from January 14 to February 13. The limited Off-Broadway engagement follows a sold-out run at the Hollywood Fringe Festival where the duo’s production received multiple honors.
