Rachel Carson College
Rachel Carson College is transforming environmental education to address today’s most pressing challenges. With two-thirds of RCC students being students of color and one-third first-generation, the college is uniquely positioned to amplify underrepresented voices in climate action.
Rachel Carson College is the only residential college with its own accredited minor in sustainability studies. Through endowment support, this allows the college to offer specialized faculty and programming unavailable elsewhere on campus.
The college is designing innovative coursework that challenges students to examine social inequities in environmental and climate issues. Current initiatives include a three-day film festival featuring documentaries about indigenous environmental practices and hosting female climate advocates from India to discuss the intersection of gender and climate resilience.
As environmental and social challenges accelerate, Rachel Carson College is evolving to meet the moment. Philanthropic support ensures the next generation of environmental leaders reflects the diversity and innovation our world needs.
- Paid Internships: Current endowment funding provides funding for paid internship opportunities under the sustainability minor, ensuring all students can participate regardless of financial need.
- Niebanck Founder’s Prize: This signature program invites students from any major to develop original insights on environmental practices in our built environment.
“I want students to get a perspective that’s either majority world or coming from grassroots activists to think about what are other ways that change can happen,”
—Shelly Grabe, Provost
