Community, Independence, and Self-expression
Tile Program funding helps:
- Kresge Town Hall: The town hall has been the beloved heart of Kresge's community life since its inception in 1972. The Town Hall is in serious disrepair: replacing the very old seating system will cost more than $100,000.
- Writing Center: In the tradition of Bill Everson's press, Kresge has long been connected to the printed word. It is currently the home of several literary and journalism classes, including The Writer's Life. Kresge also houses the Living Writer's Series, which brings 25-30 writers and poets to campus each year. By giving our students practical experience in all aspects of the writing world, from publishing and journalism to interactions with professionals, the Writing Center will become a dynamic hub for Kresge and the university as a whole.
- Two-credit courses for grad students/alumni/undergraduates: In recent years we have received excellent feedback on our two-credit courses offered in addition to our regular core class. These courses have included Service Learning; Leadership, Power, and Representation on Film; and Academic Success. We envision using additional resources to promote more two-credit courses that will connect graduate students, Kresge faculty and alumni with our current undergraduates.
