Chancellor's Message

UCSC is a special place because of the extraordinary people who care about this campus.

Look around and consider the contributions made by people like the late Don Rothman, the writing instructor extraordinaire I was lucky enough to call a friend for nearly 40 years. He thought writing could change the world—and the endowment he established, the Don Rothman Endowed Award in the Writing Program, is changing the world for those who receive recognition for their writing.

Think about UCSC students and graduates, and their determination to give back to the community and the world. For example, UCSC's class of 2012 decided to help other students in this time of strained budgets. They raised almost $10,000 to ensure that fellow students would receive the support they needed.

It's a pleasure to spend each day working with and among people who dare to dream big, always with kindness and compassion in their hearts. Thank you for being part of this remarkable group.

Sincerely,
