PARENT COUNCIL

Involving Parents. Expanding opportunities.

Who we are:
The newly formed UCSC Parent Council develops programs and services that build community among parents of UCSC undergraduate students. Additionally, the Council supports the student experience by enhancing the educational and social experience through parental engagement.
Membership in the Parent Council provides access. The Council interacts with university leadership, faculty, and staff. For the campus, it’s the best way for us to get the feedback we need to provide. For our parents, it’s an opportunity to learn what’s new at UCSC.
Membership in the Parent Council also provides community with other parents. Volunteer opportunities abound, but aren’t required. Learn more about volunteering with the Parent Council here: Parent Council Volunteer Opportunities

Members of the Parent Council receive:

  • Two special parents publications each year
  • Parent programs during student move-in weekend
  • Regional receptions to educate and engage parents in the UCSC community
  • Coordinated college family days in February
  • Summer orientation series for parents
  • Online parent network
  • E-newsletter four times a year
  • Fall event during Founder’s Day

WELCOME FROM THE PARENT COUNCIL CO-CHAIRS
"We are pleased to be the new Co-Chairs of the UC Santa Cruz Parent Council. We look forward to serving with each of you and joining our resources together to build engagement and volunteer opportunities, and support for the UCSC Parents' Fund. There are many meaningful ways to get involved: volunteering at UCSC events, hosting events in our communities, fundraising and stewardship, or serving as an ambassador to current and future parents.
We joined the UCSC Parent Council because, like you, we care about the academic success and social development of our child. Our daughter chose UCSC to major in music because of the excellent reputation of the UCSC music department, of the orchestra conductor and her violin professor, in the Bay Area and beyond.
We believe this to be just one example of the quality of faculty UCSC works hard to attract and retain. UCSC believes we as parents are important members of the campus community and is continuing to develop enriching parent programs. The Parent Council is just one of UCSC's outreach efforts, with more than 30 parents. Supported by a dedicated staff, the Parent Council is a great opportunity for you to develop friendships and to make your personal connection to UCSC.
UCSC was our daughter's first choice and we were thrilled when she was accepted and decided to attend. As Parent Council members we are equally excited to share in a small part of her experience by getting involved and helping ensure her success. As all of our children embark on their paths to adulthood we invite you to share in the journey with us."

With warm regards, Laura and Daniel Nachison UCSC Parent Council Co-Chairs
