Case For SupportLaboratories & Learning Spaces Engineering Building New Buildings UCSC is an outstanding public research university that engages more than 18,000 students and faculty across the liberal arts, sciences, and professions while maintaining an uncommon commitment to teaching and a unique system of residential colleges. By 2020, UCSC expects to add 3.2 million gross square feet of classrooms, research, and other physical spaces to properly carry out this mission. As part of the plan, at least 65% new construction is planned in currently developed areas. In stewardship of the land, almost 2,000 acres of open space are preserved. Donating to capital projects supports infrastructure and stewardship of the land UCSC protects. Colleges 10 different colleges at UCSC provide collaborative living and learning communities for all students and faculty. Private support increases opportunities for additional college interest programming, classes, and facilities for student life enrichment. OPERS Since 1985, the Office of Physical Education and Recreational Services has been enriching the lives of the campus and Santa Cruz community. Annually, UCSC students, faculty, staff and Santa Cruz community friends make more than 300,000 visits to OPERS to learn to sail and kayak, challenge their limits, and achieve their balance with daily yoga and personal growth classes. Through carefully managed endowment funds, costs for maintaining UCSC's facilities are defrayed by forward-thinking endowment donors. Support A gift to UCSC is tax deductible.
